Is KLXchange Reliable? How We Keep Our Rates Accurate
Updated 11 September 2026 · 5 min read
In the world of currency exchange, accuracy is everything. KLXchange was built to solve a specific problem: the "stale rate" issue found on many other comparison sites.
1. Real-Time Scraping vs. Manual Entry
Unlike directories that rely on users to manually report rates, KLXchange uses a proprietary scraping engine that connects directly to the digital rate boards of 50+ licensed money changers in Malaysia. When a merchant updates their board in Mid Valley or KLCC, our system usually picks up that change within 60-180 seconds.
2. Independent and Unbiased
We are not a money changer. We do not accept payment to "boost" any merchant's ranking. The changer at the top of our list is there for one reason only: they have the best rate for that specific currency at this exact moment.
3. Verification Steps
To ensure reliability, our system performs several automated checks:
- Outlier Detection: If a rate is mathematically impossible (e.g., USD at RM 1.00), our system flags it and keeps the last known good rate visible instead.
- Staleness Check: Every rate on our table carries a "Last Updated" timestamp. If a merchant's feed goes down, we clearly show how old the data is.
- Source Matching: We cross-reference rates across multiple branches of the same brand to identify system-wide errors.
The Counter Reality
While we strive for 100% accuracy, the "Final Counter Rate" can still vary based on note denomination (e.g., USD 1 vs USD 100) and current cash liquidity. We always recommend confirming the rate with the merchant before finalizing your transaction.
